With Genome Workbench, you can view data in publically available sequence databases at NCBI, and mix this data with your own private data. Genome Workbench can display sequence data in many ways, including graphical sequence views, various alignment views, phylogenetic tree views, and tabular views of data. Problem: When migrating from Micro Focus Workbench COBOL to Server Express you can experience different results as Workbench COBOL. How can I get the same results. Resolution: The ARITHMETIC compiler directive specifies how arithmetic expressions are to be evaluated. Setting the ARITHMETIC compil.

MicroFocus Cobol Workbench 4.0? I am working as a {*filter*}r writing Cobol programs on IBM mainframe computers. Now I want to develop my programs at home, but I can't use a modem to connect to one of the company's mainframes because of security reasons. So I am looking for a way to write and test cobol programs on a PC.
I have found the MicroFocus Homepage on the web and read their information about the Cobol Workbench 4.0 (or 3.x) and think this is pretty much what I would need.
Can anyone tell me, how similar the behavior of the workbench programs will be to that of the IBM VS Cobol II programs on a IBM3090? I will only need batch and DB2 programs, no graphical windows and the like.
And can anyone tell me the approximate price for the Cobol Workbench, because I can't find it anywhere on their web page.
Thanks. Stefan

You will be quite happy with MF COBOL (using the mainframe compatiblity option). I have been working with that for a few years now, and can write and test ALL my programs on the PC (running OS/2, MF COBOL 3.2/4.0, MF CICS and DB2/2 v.1.2). All I need to do is to do a file-transfer to TSO, recompile and link, and the program work exactly as when unit-testing on the PC. The prices in Norway is approx. 25.000 NOK (approx. 6.000 DM ???).
All levels and episodes unlocked. Free modded apk games offline. Unlimited lives. Time photo 5 mins. Regards Geir

Codes are same for both environments. But you need to change the assign clause in environment division. Otherwise it's pretty much same,or you can the try the Microfocus for Mainframe environment. thanks saif

There's a facility called MFEXTMAP that gets around that problem allowing you to map mainframe filenames onto PC ones. Comes with Workbench. -- Micro Focus Ltd, Newbury, UK. www: http://www.mfltd.co.uk/~scm/

No, you don't need to change it. Use the checker directive 'ASSIGN(EXTERNAL)' and use the MFEXTMAP.DAT file to connect DD names to pc file names.
