There are some great sceneries on freeware. I have Project Visual Hong Kong and Thomas Kwong's VHHH (I love it!!!) as I visit that airport in real life all the time and use the rail to the city. For Rio I downloaded some sceneries (there are 2 large different ones, one called Megario) but they want you to install in the main FS scenery directory.

Just spotted at Flightsim ..

FS2004 Scenery--Rio de Janeiro Package 9.0. This is the 9th version of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, scenery for FS2004. The photoreal area was expanded to aproximately 1500 km2, and numerous landmarks included. New SBGL Tom Jobim airport was included as well as improvments on SBRJ Santos Dumont, SBJR Jacarepagua, SBAF Afonsos and SDIN Clube Ceu. Improved overall performance and good performance to detail ratio, through intensively use of LODs, make this scenery suitable even on simple machines and lap tops. By Newton Drumond, Fernando Marques, Dave Pearce and Luis Vargas.

Scenery Galeao-Antonio C Jobim International Airport (SBGL), Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Features two versions, one with the crosswind runway operating and one without. Adds assigned parking, extra fuel trucks, support vehicle roads and many other improvements. By Ray Smith.

This airport was designed with the latest version of ADE (v1.47) and made only for the FSX default airport: one file with the Crosswind rwy operating, now activated by ADE where both rwy's will be used for takeoff/landing and one file as the default rwy operation: assigned parking with extra parking, the hold short problem at 10/28 is now fixed and the missing taxisigns at rwy 10/28 now added, extra fuel trucks, support vehicle roads rebuilt and many other improvements, airport views are from the roof of control tower (when in tower view) please view the readme before installation.

There are 3 BGL files: SBGL_ADE_RS.BGL, SBGL_ADE_CW_RS.BGL and an SBGL_ADE_OBJ.BGL file.

The SBGL_ADE_CW_RS.BGL version is with the Xwind rwy activated and in full operation.
The SBGL_ADE_RS.BGL version is the same as the default rwy operation.
Assigned parking is the same in both.
The SBGL_ADE_OBJ.BGL is the scenery objects file and should always be used with either RS.BGL file.
Please make sure this goes into the correct folder.

To Install:

1. Take the SBGL_RS.BGL file of your choice and place it into: Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery folder.

2. Take the SBGL_ADE_OBJ.BGL file and place it into: Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery folder.

3. Start up the Flight Sim and the changes will be present.

IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE ONLY USE ONE SBGL_RS.BGL FILE AT A TIME:
i.e: make sure there is only ONE SBGL_RS.BGL FILE in the Addon Scenery/scenery folder at any time, remove/delete any other SBGL.bgl to avoid incorrect parking and other airport conflicts.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: when using ATIS with the SBGL_ADE_CW_RS.BGL file you will hear the fake rwy's as well as the airport runways, this is the method used in activating non-parallel rwy's and should be ignored or if preferred use the version SBGL_ADE_RS.BGL

To Uninstall:

1. Delete/remove the BGL files and the default will then be active.

Jim Vile for his Technique that activates crosswind runways.

And my ever enduring wife to put up with the hours spent making these files.

TIP: when at SBGL in tower view: go to your control settings and look for the 'View track/pan Toggle' allocate a keyboard key stroke to it (I allocated a button on my controller) this will unlock the user aircraft, then you can use the hat switch to pan 360 degrees around the airport, hitting the key stroke again (in my case a button) will return you to the user aircraft position.

Enjoy and Happy flying,

Ray
